Laboratory tests and imaging studies are ordered by a health care provider. These tests are done to help diagnose or rule out an illness or condition.
Laboratory
You don't need an appointment for most tests. (Exceptions include glucose tolerance tests and male fertility tests).
- 1-hour glucose testing must be started no later than 3 p.m.
- 2- to 3-hour glucose testing is by appointment only.
You need to prepare for some tests.
- Cholesterol and lipids tests require you to fast for 10 - 12 hours beforehand.
- 24-hour urine collections need specimen containers.

Radiology & Nuclear Medicine
Provides diagnostic imaging, interpretation services and treatment to support the needs of the inpatient and outpatient departments and clinics belonging to Naval Hospital Jacksonville.

CT- only offered at the hospital; open to any patient enrolled at the hospital or its branch health clinics
MRI – only offered at the hospital; open to active duty only; all retired and dependents will be deferred to the network
Fluoroscopy – only offered at the hospital; open to any patient enrolled at the hospital or its branch health clinics
Ultrasound – only offered at the hospital; open to any patient enrolled at the hospital or its branch health clinics
Nuclear Medicine – only offered at the hospital; open to any patient enrolled at the hospital or its branch health clinics
Breast Clinic – only offered at the hospital; screening mammograms open to any patient enrolled at the hospital or its branch health clinics.
How to Make an Appointment
Routine requests for X-ray do not require an appointment. They are completed on a walk-in basis. Special studies such as Mammograms, Ultrasound, CT scan, and Fluoroscopic exams require an appointment through the Radiology Scheduling Office at (904) 542-7782. MRI studies can be scheduled through Protocol at (904) 542-9118. Nuclear Medicine studies can be scheduled using (904) 542-7044 / 7940

Scheduler will review all necessary screening and preparation to include laboratory orders and additional imaging as needed.

Referrals for Radiology Services We Don’t Provide
All orders must be placed as referrals in Referral 2.0 by the ordering provider. Any order not placed correctly will be directed back to the ordering provider.
