Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s virtual visits app wins innovation award

By Yan Kennon, Naval Hospital Jacksonville

The Navy Care virtual visits app at Naval Hospital Jacksonville has won a FedHealthIT Innovation Award for the second year in a row.

Navy Care offers a live, virtual visit with a clinician — from the patient's smartphone, laptop, or computer.  Patients can use it from home, work, or wherever they want to receive care.  It’s private, secure, and free.

“Virtual visits have become a key tool in health care delivery, particularly during the pandemic,” said Capt. Teresa Allen, NH Jacksonville commander and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville commanding officer.  “And critically, virtual care supports readiness by decreasing patients’ time away from the mission, work, and family.”

The FedHealthIT Innovation Awards are being presented at a virtual ceremony on June 22 and 23.  Winning programs are nominated and selected by peers for driving innovation and results across the Department of Veterans Affairs, Military Health System, Health and Human Services, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
